Client Spotlight - Immigrant and Refugee Women's Program
This month Paradigm Shift Studio, llc is proud to introduce you to the Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program. This organization is devoted to increasing the independence and reducing the isolation of immigrant and refugee women by teaching them basic English and practical living skills in the security of their own homes.
IRWP began 14 years ago under the sponsorship of the Notre Dame Ministry Corporation with Sr. Elise Silvestri, SSND and eight Vietnamese women students. After continuing to grow the Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program became an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation in 2006.
Today the Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program generally serves immigrant and refugee women who are unable to attend formal classes due to childcare issues, transportation, work schedules, or health issues (often a result of war trauma). Volunteers in this program provide one-on-one instruction that includes speaking, reading, and writing the English language. This instruction occurs weekly in two 1-hour sessions in the student’s home. Together the student and instructor work towards a student’s personal goals that may include citizenship, employment, assisting in their children’s education, and becoming involved contributors to the community. Since 30% of the women they serve have never been to school, even in their country of origin, this is their first opportunity for literacy. IRWP provides the curriculum, training, lesson plans, and materials so that the volunteer instructor does not need a teaching background in order to help another women learn English. Last year IRWP was able to provide 110 women one-on-one English instruction with their volunteers.
Paradigm Shift Studio, llc first got involved with the Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program when they purchased a Framework for Success resource from us. As Pat Joshu, their Executive Director, states, “IRWP has a small but growing Board of Directors. The Framework for Success board module helped in identifying our board strengths and weaknesses. The profile matrixes were on the CD and quickly adjustable to cover our needs. What a time saver! We’ve used many of their other modules and tools to train a new employee and as new board members join our team. Through their Paradigm Partner’s Program, IRWP was able to find Kim Schwaab kschwaab@gmail.com, a great web designer, our fundraising software, and now our partner for online fundraising. In my experience, the team at Paradigm really cares about their clients and structures their projects to help organizations successfully reach their goals.”
When Paradigm asked about the future goals of the Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Program, we were told, “We ultimately want to provide English and practical living skill education to any isolated immigrant and refugee woman who wants to learn but does not have the opportunity. They have so much to offer our community and through this program they can find their independence, improve their lives, and be empowered to reach their goals. We are also excited to be partnering with NFP Solutions on our Next Generation Donation On-Online Giving platform. Through the donation catalog, IRWP will be able to tell our story and offer people the opportunity to support the areas closest to their heart. Please see it yourself by visiting our website in December.”
If you would like more information about IRWP please visit their website or contact Executive Director, Pat Joshu, at 314-771-1104 or email director@irwp.net.
Paradigm Partner - NFP Solutions, LLC
In today’s world, financial transactions on the internet are growing at staggering rates. People now buy and sell items, pay their bills, and do a significant amount of their banking online. Individuals have come to not just want, but expect the convenience of the internet when performing these transactions and many donors want to make their gifts online as well. We are proud to introduce you to our newest Paradigm Partner, NFP Solutions, LLC, a company who partners with non-profits to make online giving a fun and engaging opportunity for donors.
NFP was formed in February of 2009 because both of the founders, Cathy Hebert and David Lockwood, have a passion to help others. NFP Solutions, LLC provides unique, completely customizable online donation processing for nonprofits at an affordable price. Most online donation software processing solutions have a simple box asking how much the donor would like to contribute. Next Generation Donation, NFP’s solution, allows a nonprofit organization to quickly and easily generate an entire catalog educating the donor on all aspects of their mission, showing them more ways to become engaged and partner with them in reaching their goal.
If you would like more information about NFP Solutions please contact Cathy Hebert, Director of Sales, at 314-440-0808 or visit their website. As a special bonus to Paradigm clients, NFP Solutions LLC will waive the cost of their application/set up fee.
"I have enjoyed working with Cathy and David at NFP Solutions. They have allowed us to put a more professional face on our fundraising campaigns -- and the ease of online giving has increased our community's support in the process. Next Generation Donation is easy to work with and customize, and the NFP Solutions staff is immediately responsive to our needs."
